Travel to South Africa update - 14 October 2021

1. For information on obtaining a Swiss Covid Certificate if vaccinated abroad please go to the tab "CONSULAR SERVICES, VISAS, PASSPORTS, DOCUMENTS, CERTIFICATES, TRAVEL" and then select the tab "UPDATES ON TRAVEL" - then select "INFORMATION ON: SWISS COVID CERTIFICATE AND APPLICATION FOR SWISS CERTIFICATE IF VACCINATED ABROAD - 14 OCTOBER 2021"

For Travel into the Republic of South Africa

2. All international travellers arriving at open airports, listed below, must provide a valid certificate of a negative COVID-19 test, recognised by the World Health Organisation, which was obtained not more than 72 hours before the date of travel. It does not matter if you have been vaccinated, the negative PCR  test is still required.

In the event of the traveller's failure to submit a certificate as proof of a negative COVID-19 test, the traveller will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and in the event of a traveller testing positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate him or herself at his or her own cost, for a period of 10 days.

 3. Please ensure that you are familiar with the internal regulations of the airline with which you are traveling to South Africa.

 4. South Africa has launched our digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate.
The digital certificate is a validation that you have successfully completed the full COVID-19 vaccination course. It provides a secure and verifiable proof of vaccination and can be viewed on a mobile device.

It can be used to show your vaccination status to establishments, gatherings and other forms of activities, which request proof of vaccination.
The Government of South Africa does not intend to make the certificate a requirement for accessing public services.

Our approach in developing the digital certificate is informed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines and is in line with international best practice and itwill go a long way towards getting a number of international travel restrictions both from and into our country eased.

Vaccination certificates can be used to facilitate international travel where some countries require it as a condition of entry.

The digital certificate is secured.
• The electronic vaccination certificate has been developed with fraud protection and other security measures.
• The safety of the certificates is aligned to the highest international security standards. We have taken great care to build in security features that protect individuals` personal data.
• Our digital vaccine certificate features a scan QR code.

5. Further information on the new regulations can be found under the tab "Consular Services, Visas, Documents, Passports, Certificates, Travel" and then under "Updates on Travel"
